Taxpayer Dependent Cook County Health (CCH) is a public health care provider that relies on county taxpayer support to meet its mission of offering care to all regardless of ability to pay.
Serving Those in Need CCH is the safety net for health care in Chicago and suburban Cook County and has been a provider of choice for generations of area residents. The main hospital, the John H. Stroger, Jr., Hospital is located in the Illinois Medical District on Chicago’s Near West Side and serves as the primary public provider of comprehensive medical services for the people of metropolitan Chicago.
Locations and Reach The System is also comprised of Provident Hospital on Chicago’s south-side and the Oak Forest Intermediate Care Center in suburban Oak Forest. CCHHS operates 16 health centers serving families in neighborhoods across the county with preventive care, assessment and chronic disease management. CCHHS also provides health services to juvenile and adult detainees in the County’s correctional system. The Cook County Department of Public Health, serving suburban Cook municipalities, is also part of CCHHS.
Innovation and Economic Impact CCH is part of the Illinois Medical District, the nation’s largest urban medical district focused on expanding innovation in health care, medical science, information technology, biotechnology, medical devices, clean technology, and supportive assistive living. It generates $3.3 billion in economic activity, employs 20,000 people and is the nation’s largest urban medical district.
Supporting the Future As with most public entities nationwide, taxpayer support does not cover all costs, and at the same time, the System has markedly reduced its dependence on County funding. Cook County Health Foundation support will guarantee that CCH can continue to make the capital and operating investments necessary to provide the caliber of medical care, teaching and research for which it has been known for generations.
Comprehensive Approach The Cook County Health Foundation is committed to supporting CCH to provide comprehensive preventive and wellness services in effective and welcoming settings that respect the individual dignity of every patient in pursuit of their own journey toward better health.

Your Support Will Make a Difference
Funds raised by the Cook County Health Foundation are supplemental to Cook County government funding. Foundation investments in Cook County Health will not only support improved facilities and equipment but also will help advance clinical and educational program development, ensuring that CCH can continue to provide up-to-date interventions, teaching and research.
To date, the Foundation has had only nominal operating costs, allowing most of every dollar to go straight to supporting CCH. The Foundation goal is to remain ahead of the industry standard in ensuring that its funds provide direct support in line with its mission and goals.
Our voluntary members of the board work hard to reach out to individuals, companies and foundations to share the needs of CCH and seek their collaboration in enhancing the care provided to residents of Cook County.
