In Chicago, 1 in 10 babies is born premature and the cost of a single night’s stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) can be nearly $4,000. More than half of premature births in the US are covered by Medicaid, which doesn’t always cover the full cost of care, and hospitals receive no additional funding for specialized NICU equipment, leaving hospitals to raise this money themselves.
To help create awareness around this big cause, Cook County Health & Hospital Systems created The Tiniest Listing, an online rental that allows you book a stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to support the tiniest patients and their families.
The Tiniest Listing was launched in the classifieds section of major newspapers and rental sites. The ads drove people to thetiniestlisting.com where they were able to make a donation to help a preemie baby and their family thrive.
All proceeds will go to the Cook County Health Foundation, helping to care for the 100,000 women and children CCHHS serves each year. CCHHS has always been committed to providing high-quality care to all patients, no matter their ability to pay. This latest fundraising effort hopes to help provide that care for the most vulnerable members of that community – preemie babies.
