Cook County Health Foundation Scholarship Fund

Overview:

Everyone in our community deserves an education but unfortunately the barriers to receive education for many of our fellow Chicagoans is not so easy to come by. As the Cook County Health Foundation, our goal is to not only raise critical funds for our health system but also support the extensive needs of the community.

We are excited to announce the establishment of the Cook County Health Foundation Scholarship. This scholarship will award financial assistance to underrepresented minority students seeking careers in medicine and the health professions.

Thanks to the generous support of Cook County, the foundation was awarded seed money to support this new initiative. The Scholarship Program is divided into two tiers focusing on both medical students and allied health professionals. Our priority is providing access to as many health professionals as possible, with a focus on underrepresented minorities.

Identified Problem:

Studies have shown a severe lack of diversity in the healthcare workforce, a problem that, according to researchers is a main factor in widening health disparities for minorities. Supporting diversity in healthcare can lead to cultural competency and aid in addressing healthcare providers ability to provide services that meet the unique social, cultural, and linguistic needs of their patients. In short, the better represented a patient is when seeking healthcare, the better they can be treated, thereby producing a better outcome.

Call for Support:

The time is now for us to call on our community to make a difference. 100% of your support will go directly towards providing scholarship dollars to minority students seeking careers in medicine and other allied health professions. Please understand the critical need for your support and the direct benefits that your donation will have on our community. Your gift expands access to education and allows us, the Cook County Health Foundation the ability to provide funds to students most in need.
